Just don't complain

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Just do not muck is a polka française , the Johann Strauss II (op. 472) is attributed. The work was first performed by military bands in Vienna in the summer of 1897.

Remarks

The polka was put together based on motifs from the operetta The Goddess of Reason . The work thus joins a series of compositions (opus numbers 471 , 473 , 474 , 475 and 476 ) that take up all the themes from this operetta. Most of these works were only completed as piano reductions. At that time, some military music masters created an orchestral version based on the piano reduction of the Polka Nur nicht mucken , which they played in Vienna in the summer of 1897. The orchestral version mentioned on the Naxos CD recording mentioned below comes from the British Edward Peak. It is not clear in the sources whether the piano reduction was originally by Johann Strauss. In view of the fact that Strauss demonstratively distanced himself from this, his last operetta, it is possible that the piano reduction was also created by another hand. Musically, the polka is based on a song by Bonhommes Nur nicht ducken and twitch . Until the release of the Naxos CD mentioned below, the work will hardly have been played.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 4 minutes and 2 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
