Benefit (electronics)

Quadruple benefit

As a benefit in being electrical connection technology , a total PCB called that of individual PCBs exist and is not sporadically. The entire circuit board can contain identical circuit functions with the same structure several times, or there can be different circuit functions on the individual circuit boards. A production benefit comprises at least two individual printed circuit boards. The device for separating the printed circuit boards is called a depaneling device .

PCB manufacturing

Several individual circuit boards - as the later carrier of the components to be assembled - are arranged next to one another to form a large circuit board when building up the panels and thus produced in a composite. If the production benefits in the assembly production are smaller than the benefits in the manufacture of the carrier, a separation is made into production benefits that contain a smaller number of individual circuit boards before assembly.

Manufacturing steps of assembly production

The production benefits are assembled with SMD components as a group of several individual circuit boards at the same time by the automatic assembly machines . Furthermore, manufacturing benefits are used in the field of mechanical or manual assembly of THT components and other processes in assembly and connection technology. After one or two soldering processes ( reflow soldering , vapor phase soldering , wave soldering or selective soldering ) as well as all other processes intended for processing in the entire panel ( automatic optical inspection , in-circuit test ), the entire circuit board is separated into individual circuit boards.

Separation process

After all production steps that are designed for processing in the entire panel have been processed, the entire circuit board is separated. For this purpose, various separation methods: The total circuit board (overall assembly) is free milling , manually breaking (manual cutting of the breaker points), tool bound severing punching locations by mechanical punching or manual or mechanical cutting of Ritz points (by a circular blade, shear blades or guillotine in individual circuit boards individual modules ) Cut. The interconnected individual circuit boards are referred to as a whole as production panels , hence the term panel separation.

advantages and disadvantages

The advantage of the simultaneous production of so-called manufacturing panels lies in a higher throughput rate in the systems, since only a single transport and handling process is required for each panel. The benefit processing increases the profitability in the automated production of circuit boards and electronic assemblies . Furthermore, through manufacturing benefits, circuits can be produced in which an individual printed circuit board is smaller than the minimum size for machine assembly.

A disadvantage of the depaneling is the possible damage to the assemblies or the assembled components, e.g. B. Ceramic capacitors , due to improper disconnection. In addition, a defective single printed circuit board that cannot be repaired economically leads to additional work: Either the entire panel is discarded or processed with the defect and only the defective single printed circuit board is sorted out after separation. In the latter case, the defective individual circuit board can be omitted, which, however, makes it necessary to control the assembly by reading out a label.
