Nydomen (Norwegian, English Novyy Island , Russian Купол Новый Kupol Nowy , German 'New Dome' ) is an island up to 250 m high off the Princess Martha coast of the East Antarctic Queen Maud Land . It is the larger and more southerly of two ice-covered islands at the junction between the Jelbart and Fimbul Ice Shelf . The other is called Blåskimen .
Participants in the Third Norwegian Antarctic Expedition (1956–1960) carried out a rough mapping. A Soviet Antarctic expedition mapped it more precisely in 1961 and also named it. Later the name was adapted into Norwegian and also translated into English.
