The Nyumba ya Mungu Reservoir ("The House of God") is a reservoir in the Mwanga district in the Kilimanjaro region at the foot of the mountain of the same name in northern Tanzania . It was completed in 1965 and is at an altitude of 670 m. It has a maximum depth of 41 m and an average depth of 6 m.

use

The lake is used for irrigation and electricity generation. The power of the hydropower plant is 8 MW. It is also important for local fishing and serves as a refuge for many water birds.

Hydrology

The reservoir is fed by the Ruvu and the Kikuletwa, which drain Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru, respectively . Its outlet is the Pangani. The lake has lost a lot of its area in recent years.
