List of power plants in Tanzania

Installed capacity and annual production
In 2011, Tanzania was 121st in terms of annual generation with 5.115 billion kWh and 127th in the world for installed capacity with 845 MW. In May 2014 the installed capacity was 1,583 MW, of which hydropower plants accounted for 561 MW (35%), gas-fired power plants 527 MW (34%) and diesel generators 495 MW (31%).
In 2017, according to the state regulatory authority ( Energy and Water Utilities Regulatory Authority ) , the installed power plant capacity totaled 1,451 MW, of which 561 MW from hydropower plants, 615 MW from gas-fired power plants, 252 MW from diesel generators and 23 MW from generation plants based on renewable energy .
