Electricity generation by energy source

The UK power plants are shown both on a map and in tables (with indicators). The list is not complete.

Installed capacity and annual production

In 2016, the United Kingdom ranked 12th in the world for annual generation with 318.2  TWh and 13th for installed capacity with 97.06  GW . The degree of electrification was 100% in 2016. The UK was a net importer of electricity in 2016; it exported 2.2 TWh and imported 19.7 TWh.

Caloric power plants

Only power plants with an installed capacity of more than 500 MW are listed in the table.

The UK has introduced a capacity market to obtain currently unprofitable coal and gas power plants as cold reserve .
