List of power plants in Italy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The power plants in Italy are shown both on a map and in tables (with key figures). The list is not complete.

Installed capacity and annual production

In 2016, Italy was 14th in the world for generation with 275.3 billion kWh and 10th in the world for installed capacity with 114,200 MW. In 2016, Italy was the second largest electricity importer in the world with 43.18 billion kWh.

Geothermal power plants

With the construction of the geothermal power station Larderello in 1904, Italy pioneered geothermal electricity generation worldwide. In 2010, geothermal power plants with an installed capacity of 843 MW were in operation in Italy . Their annual production was 5.52 billion kWh. In 2016, the installed capacity increased to 815 MW, but only 6% of the available geothermal energy was used due to a lack of resources.

Nuclear power plants

On November 8, 1987, a referendum was held in Italy over the Chernobyl nuclear disaster . As a result, the nuclear power plants in Italy were shut down (see also nuclear phase-out ). However, they are listed here for the sake of completeness.
