In 2016, Rwanda ranked 166th in terms of installed capacity with 191 MW and 164th place in the world for annual generation with 525 million kWh . The degree of electrification was 21% in 2013 (67% in cities and 5% in rural areas). The state electricity supplier Rwanda Energy Group specifies the currently installed total output of 218 MW (as of January 2019). According to REG, the installed capacity is to be increased to 556 MW by 2024; the degree of electrification is to increase from currently 49.6 to 100% by then.
