The Little Barford Power Station is one with natural gas -powered combined cycle power plant in Little Barford in the county of Bedfordshire in England . The caloric power plant, which is located next to the River Great Ouse and operated by RWE Generation UK , has an installed capacity of 727 MW .
General
Originally there was a coal-fired power plant with an installed capacity of 120 MW at the site . This consisted of two turbo sets of 60 MW each. The coal-fired power station was closed on October 26, 1981 and demolished in 1989.
The subsequent construction work on the combined cycle power plant began in 1994, and operations began in 1996. The combined cycle power plant consists of two gas turbines , both built by General Electric , and a steam turbine by Alstom .
In 2002 a battery storage system based on polysulphide bromide accumulators with a maximum output of 12 MW and a storage capacity of 120 MWh was installed on the power plant site on an experimental basis to compensate for load fluctuations in the power grid . Due to technical difficulties, the storage facility did not get beyond the trial operation.
