The series O & K MC14N is a series of three-axis diesel locomotives with Shaft drive for shunting. From 1963 to 1971 Orenstein & Koppel (O&K) built 17 locomotives. The majority of the locomotives are in use as of 2019.

development

When locomotives were produced again at O&K Dortmund after the Second World War , several model series were created. In the O & K MC14N the third post-generation for the first time, the power transmission was with joint shafts applied. The designation O&K MC14N contains the type of locomotive, the wheel arrangement , the power with 1/20 in HP and the use for the gauge . With the O&K MC14N , a three-axle locomotive was offered in the model range for the first time.

The 17 manufactured locomotives were sold to industrial companies in Germany, including one to the Osnabrück port railway . A locomotive arrived in the Netherlands .

technology

The front-end locomotive has a driver's cab that is slightly off-center. The diesel engine is mounted in the longer front end and the fluid transmission in the shorter front end . The power transmission from the engine to the gearbox was carried out under the cab floor by a cardan shaft.

The locomotives have special axle bearings on a subframe. For this purpose, they have an outer frame that is designed without axle bearing cutouts. The outlet from the fluid transmission is outside the axle group, the power transmission is realized via the axle drive with drives through cardan shafts.

commitment

More than half of the locomotives are still in use as of 2019.

VLO 1

The locomotive was originally delivered to the Osnabrück port railway and used there for shunting. In 1995 the locomotive was damaged in a heavy collision with a truck . After a thorough overhaul, it was put back into operation as VLO 1 by the Verkehrsgesellschaft Landkreis Osnabrück . The locomotive was painted white and was nicknamed the Washer . With its low speed, it was primarily used for shunting. In 2007 the locomotive was shut down after a serious gearbox damage. After reprocessing, it came to Slovakia .
