from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

OG Style (real name: Eric Woods ; * July 5, 1970 in Houston , Texas ; † January 2, 2008 there ) was an American gangsta rapper .

biography

Woods began his career in 1986 under the pen name Prince Ezzy-E . When he founded the duo OG Style with the DJ Big Boss in the late 1980s , he renamed himself Original E to avoid confusion with Eazy-E . The 1991 debut album by the duo I Know How to Play 'Em! included the chart hit Catch 'Em Slippin' . The album itself peaked at # 69 of the US Billboard - Hip-hop -charts. The album is a sought-after rarity today.

When DJ Big Boss left the group, Woods took over the pseudonym OG Style. He released two solo albums in 2000 and 2005 , but could not boast any major success. Nevertheless, he is considered a "hip-hop pioneer" in the Houston rap scene and had a great influence on rappers like Bun B and K-Rino .

In 2007 he started working on a new album with producer Smurk . On January 2, 2008, he was admitted to St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital and died there of complications from a cerebral hemorrhage . The not yet finished album is to be released posthumously by his sons.
