The OHE 84 201 was a freight tender locomotive that was specially developed by the Krupp Lokomotiv- und Waggonbaufabrik for service on the East Hanoverian Railway . It received its name based on the DR series 84 .

The locomotive was created in connection with the procurement of new locomotives for the Deutsche Bundesbahn and only had a relatively short lifespan of around 15 years. The locomotive was retired in 1965, its whereabouts are not known.

history

The locomotive was developed by Krupp specifically for the needs of the OHE and was primarily intended for the freight transport of the numerous OHE customers. Production of the locomotive was planned for the Deutsche Reichsbahn as early as 1943 . The locomotive was to be numbered 86 968 . However, the order was canceled. For the OHE 84 201 that was built after the war, there was a similar tank locomotive with a 1 'D 1' wheel arrangement of the Bentheimer Eisenbahn .

The locomotive was supposed to transport trailer loads of 1,200 t with good cornering maneuverability at higher driving speeds and have favorable consumption values in terms of weight, heating surface, supplies and power. No information can be found about the use, performance and performance of the locomotive.

Their development coincided with the time of structural change, so that only one copy was built. The locomotive has performed well in general operation. It had a relatively high speed of 85 km / h forwards and backwards, so that it could be used well for passenger train service. In 1965, the locomotive, which was made in green for the water boxes and the driver's cab, was retired; its whereabouts are not known.

technical description

Although it was based on the pre-war series 84, the OHE 84 201 was below and far below the DR series 85 in terms of performance . It was primarily manufactured using welding technology , only the long boiler , the standing boiler and the copper fire box were riveted to one another. In the control , the rotary movements of the steering wheel were transmitted to the control spindle via the chain wheel and chain with a ratio of 1.5: 1.

The locomotive frame was designed as a bar frame and was 80 mm thick. The running gear was designed with particular care for the required curve radius of 140 m; the 2nd to 4th drive axles were firmly mounted in the frame. The 3rd driving axle, designed as a driving wheel set, had weakened wheel flanges . The outer driving axles were combined with the running axles to form a Krauss-Helmholtz steering frame , the coupling axles had a lateral displacement of +/- 25 mm.

Two sandboxes and the steam dome were combined under sheet metal cladding, as well as a water tank with a capacity of 750 l, which was placed under the smoke chamber, for the installation of a mixer preheater and the third headlight located above the top of the boiler in front of the chimney.
