The E 1100 is a series of electric locomotives produced by the Moroccan railway company Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) and built by the Japanese company Hitachi .

History, description and use

The E 1100 are the first Japanese electric locomotives to be sold to Africa . The machines have a contactor control and an electrical resistance brake . They are designed for heavy freight traffic and are used almost exclusively in front of phosphate trains . Phosphate transport accounts for approximately 75% of the ONCF's freight traffic.

The successful use of the series led to the ordering of locomotives in the ONCF E 1200 and ONCF E 1250 series from the same manufacturer.
