The E 1250 is a series of electric locomotives produced by the Moroccan railway company Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF).

History, description and use

In February 1983, the ONCF ordered twelve powerful electric locomotives for high-quality travel in Japan . At this point in time, Hitachi had already delivered E 1100 and E 1200 series locomotives to Morocco.

The case of E 1250 is the series E 1200 very similar, in contrast to this freight locomotive was, however, the E 1250 as express locomotive designed. Unlike the predecessor machines received from Japan, the E 1250's drive motors are fully sprung . As the only ONCF series, it can, thanks to a static converter , supply passenger trains directly with 380 volts three-phase current . In all other cases a generator car is added to the train for this purpose .

The maximum speed of the locomotives has meanwhile been reduced from 160 km / h to 140 km / h. The machines are mainly used in front of heavy express trains on the Marrakech - Fez route .
