The ships of the OOCL SX class were among the world's largest container ships when they were commissioned in 2004 .

history

The series was delivered from 2003 to 2007 in an edition of twelve ships by the South Korean shipyard Samsung Heavy Industries in Koje. The client for the series was the Hong Kong-based Orient Overseas Container Line (OOCL), where the ships are still in service today. All ships of the class are used in liner services between Europe and East Asia.

The SX class ships are among the Post-Panamax container ships and have a slot capacity of 8063 TEU (6105 TEU / homogeneous 14 tons) and 700 reefer container connections. The ships classified by the American Bureau of Shipping can stow 15 containers side by side and 9 layers on top of each other in the hold, on deck there are 17 containers next to each other and 7 layers on top of each other. The construction designation 7400TEU Container Carrier of the first eight ships is remarkable , while the last four units with the same dimensions were carried in the shipyard as New Construction-8036 TEU Container Carriers .

The common rail main engines used were among the most powerful diesel engines on the market at the time.
