Organic pin grid array
The Organic Pin Grid Array ( OPGA ) is a housing design for electronic chips such. B. Processors .
The semiconductor chip ( The ) is on a carrier of a fiber optic fixed -Verbundstoff. The signal and data lines are routed over and through the carrier to a grid ( array ) of needle-like contacts ( pin ).
As a rule, the carrier with its contacts is plugged into a corresponding socket . Due to the poor thermal conductivity of the carrier material, OPGA housings are almost exclusively manufactured as FCPGA .
The name itself was established by AMD when the Athlon XP was launched . All Athlon 64 and Turion processors are also designed as OPGA.
