The OSI Food Solutions Germany GmbH is a meat-processing and manufacturing company owned by the OSI Group , based in Gunzburg , serving exclusively the McDonald's Corporation with meat and poultry.
history
The company operated until November 2010 as Esca Food Solutions GmbH, 2008 resulting from a conversion of Esca Food Solutions GmbH & Co. KG. In 1978 Lutz Fleischwaren AG and Otto and Sons Inc. (OSI) founded Esca as a joint venture .
Corporate structure
Headquarter in Germany is Günzburg with around 230 employees and annually 50,000 tons of beef and pork products. In 1988 a production site was opened in Duisburg- Rheinhausen, with around 200 employees for 30,000 tons of poultry products per year.
OSI is the only supplier of meat products for McDonald's Germany. In 2016, 93 percent of the beef for McDonald's came from Germany; in 2010 there were around 150,000 small and medium-sized farms that delivered meat to McDonald's via OSI. According to information from McDonald's, the remaining 10% come from the Netherlands, Austria and Denmark. The company is generally very cautious and refers to its client McDonald's for more information on the origin, quality and processing of its raw materials and products.
criticism
Activists from Soko Tierschutz documented several violations of animal welfare under the supervision of officially appointed veterinarians in an OSI slaughterhouse in Tauberbischofsheim in January 2018 . Soko Tierschutz played the recordings to stern TV , which reported on it on February 14, 2018. Thereupon McDonald's and the SOKO animal welfare filed a criminal complaint against the respective company and the veterinary office.
On the same day the OSI slaughterhouse was temporarily closed. The slaughterhouse in question is now permanently closed, as the veterinary office continued to discover significant deficiencies after a trial run.
