O Clone (also The Clone ) is a Brazilian telenovela that was first broadcast between October 1, 2001 and June 14, 2002 by Rede Globo . The original version consists of 221 episodes. The series deals, which is unusual for series of this format, with cultural differences and social constraints, genetics and ethics, drug addiction and other topics.

At the beginning of the eighties, Jade, a young Muslim woman of Moroccan origin, lives in Rio de Janeiro . She spent her childhood here. After the death of her mother, she returns to Morocco . There she lives with her uncle. Jade is used to a free life in Brazil , suddenly she is confronted with the strict moral standards of Moroccan society.
The wealthy Ferras family from Rio de Janeiro spend their vacation in Morocco. The twin brothers Lucas and Diogo Ferraz, their father Leônidas, and a friend of the family, the geneticist Augusto Albieri, meet Jade. She falls in love with Lucas. Jade knows that her social environment would not accept a relationship with Lucas. Lucas reciprocates her feelings. They plan to flee together. In Rio de Janeiro, Lucas's brother Diogo is killed in a helicopter crash. Lucas, shaken by the death of his brother, does not want to flee with his lover in this situation. Albieri, the godfather, secretly creates the first human clone with Lucas' genetic makeup, which Deusa, a young Brazilian woman who cannot have children herself, uses. This does not know that it is a clone. The child is born and given the name Leo. Under pressure from her uncle, Jade Said marries. They have the daughter Khadija. They lead happy family lives together. Jade and Lucas meet again, the old passion between them reawakens, but both are now family-bound and have obligations that they do not want to evade. Lucas is married to Maysa. They have their daughter Mel, who is a drug addict, but the parents don't know. Albieri, Deusa and Leo emigrated to northern Brazil. Their return has serious consequences for everyone involved in telenovela.
