O Milladoiro (sometimes without the article "O") is a parroquia in the municipality of Ames in the province of A Coruña of the autonomous community of Galicia . It is only 3 km from Santiago de Compostela. With 12,465 inhabitants (2016) it is the most populous place within the municipality of Ames.

The place is closely connected to the pilgrimage of St. James via the Portuguese Way ( Camino Portugués ) and can be compared to San Marcos-Monte do Gozo : As the last village before Santiago, the cathedral can be seen from here for the first time, which made the pilgrims happy and moved to sink your knees. This kneeling in humility is described with the verb "humillarse" (bend over, humiliate, humiliate) and gave the place its substantive name "Humilladoiro" (place of kneeling down / humility). In parlance, the place name was ground to "Milladoiro".

In the recent past, Milladoiro was administratively part of the Parroquia Santa Maria de Biduído until the population decided in March 2009 to manage itself as an independent Parroquia. St. Joseph was chosen as patron , so that the name of the village is also San José de Milladoiro. In addition to the patronage festival, the place celebrates the feast of St. Mary Magdalene in July and the village festival in August.

The successful Galician folk band Milladoiro has named itself after the place .
