The 2013 Moscow mayoral election took place on September 8, 2013 in the Russian capital Moscow . On June 5, 2013, incumbent Sergei Sobyanin announced early elections .

Sobyanin was re-elected in the first ballot.

In 2004, after several terrorist attacks , the then Russian President Vladimir Putin abolished the direct election of the mayor and introduced the appointment by the president himself. In response to the protests following the Russian parliamentary elections in 2011 , President Dmitry Medvedev reintroduced direct elections.

Result

1.53 percent of the votes were invalid and the turnout was 32.07 percent.

The favorite was incumbent Sobyanin, who came to around 50 percent in polls before the election. Navalny was around 15 percent, the other candidates between one and six percent.
