The Oberblegisee is a mountain lake in the canton of Glarus at the foot of the Glärnisch . It is located at an altitude of about 1422 m and thus almost 900 meters above the main valley. The lake is 15 hectares in size and was created behind a glacial moraine. Like many such lakes, it has an underground drainage through the loose rock, which is still largely unexplored.
From Braunwald , a path leads to the Oberblegisee in approx. 2 ½ hours without a large difference in altitude. The route is more difficult from the valley floor, but there is also a small cable car from Luchsingen to the Brunnenberg . The mountain station is 330 meters below the lake.
In the next area chamber, 2 kilometers to the north and 100 meters higher, there is another lake with no outflow, the “Guppensee”. In recent times, however, the almost one hectare lake has often dried up.
