The Oberpostdirektion Koblenz was an intermediate authority of the postal administration in Koblenz and existed from January 1, 1850 to January 1, 1995.

history

The Oberpostdirektion was responsible for the Koblenz administrative region in the Prussian Rhine province . According to the general design of the building department in the Reichs-Postamt under August Kind , a building on Clemensplatz was built for the Oberpostdirektion in the period from July 1881 to November 1883 by the government builder Richard Kux under the supervision of the post-building councilor Carl Cuno in Frankfurt am Main. As the building became too small over time, it was decided to build a new one. On the Kaiser-Wilhelm-Ring (today Friedrich-Ebert-Ring) the Imperial Post Office was built between 1905 and 1907 .

After the Second World War , only the Oberpostdirektion Koblenz was able to work in the French occupation zone . The building damaged in the air raids was repaired around 1948. The roof landscape and the facade were simplified in line with contemporary tastes. After the reorganization of the OPD districts between 1973 and 1977, the Trier Post Office was dissolved and its work was taken over by Koblenz. When the Deutsche Bundespost was dissolved on January 1, 1995, the Koblenz postal directorate was also closed. The main post office building is used today by the Rhineland-Palatinate Mobility Office .
