The State Office for Mobility Rhineland-Palatinate (LBM), with its headquarters in Koblenz, plans, builds and maintains the motorways , federal , state and district roads in Rhineland-Palatinate . In addition, he is responsible for questions related to land, sea and air transport.

The LBM performs the tasks of the higher traffic authority and the hearing and plan approval authority. As an aviation authority, it is responsible for the state's monitoring and approval tasks in the area of ​​air traffic. Since July 1, 2011, the LBM has also been the state's central procurement office for general deliveries and services.

In addition to the head office in Koblenz, the State Office for Mobility is divided into eight offices, a motorway office, 57 road maintenance depots , 13 motorway maintenance depots and a telecommunications maintenance depot.

The LBM looks after a route network of around 18,000 kilometers. This includes around 875 kilometers of motorways, 2,840 kilometers of federal highways, 7,000 kilometers of state roads, 7,000 kilometers of district roads and 1,787 kilometers of cycle paths. He plans, builds and maintains engineering structures. In Rhineland-Palatinate, this includes 7,500 bridges, 380 kilometers of retaining walls, 80 kilometers of noise barriers and 29 tunnels with a total length of 9 kilometers.

The LBM sees itself as a service company for the approximately one million people who are on the streets of Rhineland-Palatinate every day. Around 3800 employees, including more than 1600 road attendants, work at the LBM.

The LBM also provides the employees for the special purpose associations SPNV Nord and SPNV Süd , who are responsible for tendering and coordinating local rail passenger transport.

The Landesbetrieb Mobility emerged from the Rhineland-Palatinate Road Administration, which was founded in 1949 and moved into the rebuilt Deutschherrenhaus in Koblenz. In January 2002, it was reorganized into the State Office for Roads and Transport Rhineland-Palatinate , which on January 1, 2007 became the State Office for Mobility in Rhineland-Palatinate.
