The Oberrheinische Bank was a credit institute with headquarters in Mannheim and branches in Mulhouse , Strasbourg , Heidelberg , Karlsruhe , Freiburg and Basel .

history

The bank was 1856 Köster & Co. founded. In 1883 it was converted into a stock corporation under the name Köster's Bank AG . In 1896 the company was changed to Oberrheinische Bank AG .

The Oberrheinische Bank was particularly active in short-term corporate financing. In alternating debt collection business, it was one of the leading banks in Germany.

In 1898, the Bank joined a community of interest with the Deutsche Bank . In 1904 the Oberrheinische Bank got into trouble due to the bankruptcy of the Mannheimer Aktiengesellschaft fürchemische Industrie and had to be taken over by the Rheinische Creditbank . The Rheinische Creditbank for its part was absorbed by Deutsche Bank in 1929 .

After the Second World War , one of the ten regional successor institutions of the broken Deutsche Bank operated under the name Oberrheinische Bank from 1948 to 1952 .
