history

The company Sociedad General de Obras y Construcciones Obrascón, SA was founded in Bilbao in 1911 . Between 1953 and 1973 the company belonged to the BBVA bank until it was taken over by Altos Hornos de Vizcaya . In 1987 it was taken over by today's CEO Juan-Miguel Villar Mir, who floated the company in 1991.

Construcciones Huarte was founded in Pamplona in 1927 . The cooperation with Obrascón began in 1996 and the two companies merged a year later.

The third company, Construcciones Laín, was founded in 1963 as a Spanish subsidiary of John Laing Construction . In 1991 the company went public on the Madrid Stock Exchange and in 1999 the company was merged with Obrascón Huarte.

Corruption allegation

On April 21, 2017, the entrepreneur Javier López was arrested by the Guardia Civil for irregular payments to the ex-president of the Comunidad de Madrid ( PP ), Ignacio Gonzáles . Javier López, son-in-law of the owner of OHL, Villar Mir, is a consultant at OHL, one of the largest construction companies in Spain. He was arrested for paying a commission of 1.4 million euros in connection with the failed project to build the railway line between Móstoles and Navalcarnero . This 14.8 km long rail link, which began in 2008, has not yet been completed. The developer was a subsidiary of OHL. This non-completion construction scandal cost the company a fine of 34 million. The arrest of Javier López marks a new phase in Operation Lezo , on April 18, 2017, during which ex-President Ignacio González was arrested by the Civil Guard's special unit against economic crime , the UCO ( Unidad Central Operativa ). On April 21, Javier López was initially released on bail of EUR 100,000. He is also charged in the Púnica case and was one of the convicts in the black credit card case .
