Observatório Cívico ( Portuguese for citizen surveillance in the sense of surveillance by the citizens , Chinese公民 監察) is a political party in the Macau Special Administrative Region within the People's Republic of China , which has had a seat in the Legislative Assembly of Macau since the 2017 general election .

history

In 2008, Energia Cívica de Macau ( Portuguese for Citizen Energy of Macau , Chinese澳門 公民 力量) was founded for a civil society group that regularly holds debates on political , social and economic issues. In addition, a round table is organized once a month at which citizens can discuss topics on an equal footing. The aim is to promote citizen participation and build civil society. In the 2009 parliamentary elections , the organization ran for the first time for the Legislative Assembly on the Observatório Cívico electoral list , but missed entry in both the 2009 parliamentary election and the 2013 parliamentary election . In the 2017 parliamentary election, the electoral list reached 9,590 votes, which corresponds to a share of 5.56%, and was thus able to win a seat in the Legislative Assembly.

On May 10, 2018, Agnes Lam opened a citizens' office where citizens can turn to MPs with suggestions .

Alignment

Observatório Cívico positions itself with its commitment to strengthening civil society and the demand for universal suffrage in the election of Macau's head of government as liberal and democratic . In the 2017 parliamentary elections, the electoral list under Agnes Lam received not only the Energia Cívica de Macau but also support from the Associacao de Nova Juventude Chinesa de Macau ( Portuguese for New Chinese Youth Association of Macau , Chinese澳門 中華 新 青年 協會), which is pro-Beijing -Close to camp . After the election, Agnes Lam herself said that she did not want to assign herself to any political camp. Depending on the topic, she would like to work with both the pro-Beijing and the pro-democracy camps . The demand for universal suffrage in the election of Macau's head of government is an original demand of the pro-democracy camp, but it does not want to be called an enemy of the government, but rather to seek professional and objective solutions regardless of ideology and camp. The media have counted Observatório Cívico after the parliamentary election in 2017 in part to the pro-democracy camp and partly to the pro-Beijing camp. According to Agnes Lam's own statements, the designation of the centrist party between the two camps has meanwhile established itself .
