Höckel is a district of the Lower Saxon community Handeloh, which in turn is part of the Tostedt municipality . Höckel is located about 4 km northwest of the main town of the municipality directly on the B3 federal road .
geography
Höckel is located in the Lüneburg Heath between the Este and Seeve rivers . The Flidderberg, located in the northern part of the village, is part of a terminal moraine from the Ice Age and is 107 m high. In the immediate vicinity of Höckel, the 223 km long Heidschnuckenweg runs through the Lüneburg Heath.

To the south of Höckel there are numerous undated burial mounds from the Neolithic Age with a diameter between 5 and 20 m. However, many of them have been lost through cultivation work. In addition, in the southern part of the village there is an approximately 250 m long section of a Landwehr from the Middle Ages .
Younger story
Höckel was first mentioned in a document in 1352 in the finding aid for the old Buxtehude monastery under the name "Höckelingen". Fragments found indicate settlement between the 9th and 11th centuries. In other documentary mentions, the name changed to "Höckelinge" (1429) and via "Hökele" (1640) to Höckel (1679). Originally the place consisted of two full farms owned by the Matthies families. The old Matthies farmhouse from 1560 (today Hof Buschbur), which is one of the oldest buildings in the Harburg district, is a testament to this period . From the early 20th century, weekend houses were built by hamburgers in Höckel , which has led to an increase in the population. On 75 hectares of forest and heathland there are extensive natural plots with more than 3000 square meters per residential building.
