Ochiai Eiji
Ochiai Eiji ( Japanese 落合英二 ; born 26 June 1898 in Urawa ( Saitama Prefecture ), died 4. November 1974 ) was a Japanese pharmaceutical chemist.
Live and act
Ochiai Eiji graduated from the Pharmaceutical Department of the Faculty of Medicine at Tōkyō University in 1922 . In 1928 he received his doctorate in medicine. From 1930 to 1932 he continued his education in Germany under Hermann Staudinger ( University of Freiburg ) and Paul Pfeiffer ( University of Bonn) . From 1938 to 1959 he worked as a professor at his alma mater , he was honored as "Meiyo Kyōju" when he left.
Ochiai has published over 470 articles on plant alkaloids, including sinomenine, a moonseed plant found in China and Japan, and matrine .
In 1944 he received the Academy of Sciences award for a thesis on aromatic-heterocyclic alkaloids. In 1963 he became an honorary member of the American Pharmacists Association, in 1969 he was honored as a person with special cultural merits and in the same year he was awarded the Imperial Order of Culture .

- ↑ Meiyo Kyōju (名誉 教授) is occasionally rendered in German as "Professor emeritus". But in contrast to this title, which is automatically used on retirement, this is a special award only occasionally granted in Japan.
