Octavian Morariu (born August 7, 1961 in Bucharest ) is a former Romanian rugby player, coach and current engineer, entrepreneur and sports official.

General

Octavian Morariu holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in engineering. At the beginning of the 21st century he worked as a manager for companies in the Vinci Group and for Veolia Environnement . Since 2004 he has been the director of three of his own companies.

Sports career

Octavian Morariu was an active rugby union player , his position was number 8. In his youth, he played for rugby club Grivița Roşie . In 1987 he went to France and switched to the capital club ASPTT Paris. In 1987 he was appointed to the British team Barbarian FC for the 1987 Easter tour . In the Romanian national team ( The Oaks ) he was appointed to 19 games between 1981 and 1987. He came to two missions. Following his active career, Morariu became a coach. From 1991 to 1993 he coached the rugby team of Paris Saint-Germain .

Sports administration

From 2001 to 2003 Octavian Morariu was President of the Romanian Rugby Federation, from 2003 to 2014 President of the Romanian NOK. He has been President of Rugby Europe since 2013 .

IOC membership

In 2013 Octavian Morariu was elected an IOC member. He is a member of the commissions for the Olympic program, for public relations and for the coordination of the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.
