Octomore was a whiskey distillery in Port Charlotte , Islay , Argyll and Bute , Scotland . The brandy produced was therefore assigned to the Islay whiskey region .

history

The distillery was founded in 1816 by George Montgomery in the port of Port Charlotte on Islay near the coast of Loch Indaal . Thomas Pattison took over the company in 1852 and closed the distillery that same year. Since the company was closed before Alfred Barnard's important whiskey trip, little is known about its history. In 2008, the Bruichladdich distillery announced plans to reopen Octomore. However , this seems unlikely, especially in view of the reopening of the Port Charlotte distillery by Bruichladdich.

Bruichladdich has been marketing a malt whiskey called Octomore for several years . With a phenol content of 309  ppm, the Octomore Masterclas 8.3 is the smokiest whiskey in the world.
