Odi Gonzales

Odi Gonzales (* 1962 in Cusco , Peru ) is a Peruvian poet who writes in Spanish and Cusco-Quechua .

Life

Odi Gonzales grew up in Cusco and learned Spanish and Quechua at the same time. He studied industrial engineering and literature in Perú and graduated from the University of Maryland (College Park) in the USA .

In Spanish he published the books of poetry Juego de niños 1988, Valle sagrado 1993, Almas en pena 1998 and La escuela de Cusco 2005. For his early poems he received the 1992 National Prize for Poetry of Peru (Premio Nacional de Poesía de Perú) " César Vallejo " and the Prize for Poetry of the Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos (Premio de Poesía de la UNMSM) in Lima . In 2002 his book of poems in Quechua, Tunupa was published. El libro de las sirenas .

Odi Gonzales has worked in the United States as a translator for English, Spanish and Quechua and as a specialist in the oral tradition of Quechua at the Smithsonian National Museum of American Indian , the National Foreign Language Center and the National Geographic Television in Washington, DC .

In 2000 he published a study and Spanish translation of the Quechua poems from Taki parwa by Andrés Alencastre Gutiérrez .
