Oenomaus (slave leader)
Oenomaus , also Oinomaos , († 73/72 BC) was next to Spartacus and Crixus the most important slave leader in the early phase of the Third Slave War (Spartacus Uprising) from 73 to 71 BC. He was probably either Gaul or Teuton (Roman sources often did not differentiate clearly in this regard). He was one of the first 73 slaves who, together with Spartacus, fled from the gladiator school of Gnaeus Cornelius Lentulus Batiatus from Capua .
Oenomaus was directly involved in the first important successes of the slave army, especially in the victory over Roman units under Claudius Glaber on Vesuvius . It probably fell in the winter of 73/72 BC. Chr.
Movie
In Spartacus (1960) embodied Woody Strode in Spartacus (2004) Henry Simmons , the role of Oenomaus and called in two films "Draba". In the television series Spartacus from 2010 he is portrayed by Peter Mensah , but only addressed as "Drago".
