Offenbach (Main) Güterbahnhof ( Offenbach Gbf ) is the freight yard of the Hessian city of Offenbach am Main .
history
With the opening of the Bebraer Bahn in its last section, the Hanau – Frankfurt line , a freight station in Offenbach also went into operation. It was right next to the passenger train station , the Offenbach main train station . Due to the lack of space in the area close to the city center, planning had to be done and Offenbach received a new freight yard in 1919 at the current location in the east of the city, also on the Hanau – Frankfurt railway line.

After the Frankfurt main freight station was closed in 2005, the Offenbach station took over the few tasks that were last performed there. It was operated as a satellite station of the Mainz-Bischofsheim freight yard and received a direct connection to Mannheim marshalling yard . For this purpose, the facility in Offenbach was reactivated. The traffic decreased steadily in the following period. Starting in 2010, numerous tracks were dismantled, then the train formation there was abandoned and the facility was finally only used to park vehicles. However, it was when Offenbach Hauptbahnhof 2012 Electronic Interlocking received, now with equipped and as station Part operated by Offenbach Central Station.
Since the timetable change at the end of 2018, SBB Cargo Deutschland has been using 13 of the remaining tracks as a new location in the Rhine-Main area , where trains are being built. The problem at the location is that trains with loaded tank wagons transporting dangerous goods are no longer allowed to pass through the Frankfurt (Main) Süd station immediately west of Offenbach since the railway accidents in Frankfurt (Main) Süd in 1996 and 1997, and such trains are allowed to use Offenbach Railway line Darmstadt-Aschaffenburg and Hanau Hauptbahnhof have to approach from the east on a considerable detour. The transshipment area is to become a residential area with Infrastukur by 2023.
