Humber Gateway is an operating offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom in the North Sea . The park has 73 wind turbines with a total installed capacity of 219 MW and supplies 150,000 households with electricity. Humber Gateway is eight kilometers off the coast at the British town of Spurn Poin .
history
In 2002 the UK government classified the area as suitable for use as an offshore wind farm. The following year, an offer was made to the British Crown Estate , which manages the area. In 2007 and 2008 the project was presented to the local population at individual events. The British government approved the project in 2011. From August 2013 the first foundations were installed and the submarine cable laid. According to EON, 1,000 jobs were created during the construction work. The project was completed in 2015 and electricity was produced for the first time.
