Johann Georg van Caspel

Johann Georg van Caspel (born May 2, 1870 in Ootmarsum , † February 6, 1928 in Utrecht ) was a Dutch painter, architect, illustrator and poster artist.

Johann Georg van Caspel studied at the Reich Academy for Fine Arts in Amsterdam from 1889 . He visited the Maurits van der Valk workshop.

In addition to his work as a portrait painter, van Caspel supplied drafts of posters to the Amand printing company. Van Caspel created around fifty posters in total. Around 1899 he moved to Brussels .

In 1903 Van Caspel moved to Laren in North Holland and was commissioned as an architect to design a villa. This brought him further orders for about thirty houses and villas in the area of Het Gooi .

Van Caspel's style was influenced by the works of the architect Karel PC de Bazel .

Van Caspel illustrated several books on the aesthetics of Art Nouveau . He has not designed any posters since around 1920.
