Amorim & Rindal , 2007 |
The Ohakuneinae are a subfamily of the long-winged mushroom mosquitoes . They are native to the southern continents. In 2007 the genus Ohakunea , already described in 1927 , which could not previously be assigned to any family, was placed in this family.
features
They are small mosquitoes a few millimeters in length. They are usually brown to light brown in color. The subfamily is mainly distinguished from other mosquito groups by its wing veins.
distribution
The type species of the genus Ohakunea is Ohakunea bicolor . This is endemic to New Zealand . The genus was named after the small town of Ohakune near the southwest slope of the Ruapehu volcano on the North Island . Other species of the genus are found in Australia , South America, and Southeast Asia . The genus Colonomyia (with the type species Colonomyia albicaulis ) is also known from South America, Australia and Papua New Guinea . The distribution area extends in the north to Central America, where the genera Cabamofa (type species Cabamofa mira ) and Rogambara (type species Rogambara dentata ) are native.
