The Ohra Dam (or Ohra Dam ) is a dam that dams the Ohra . It is located on the north side of the Thuringian Forest in the Gotha district near the village of Luisenthal .
description
The reservoir is mainly used to obtain drinking water and supplies over 400,000 residents in Central Thuringia. The storage volume is around 18 million m³. The dam has kept a natural character. In the course of the construction of the dam, 20 residential buildings, a sawmill and the former boiler shop in the Black Forest district were demolished and the road to Oberhof was relocated. The “Untere Schweizerhütte” restaurant had to close because of its location in the water catchment area of the dam, and it was also demolished.
Buildings and ancillary facilities
The dam is a straight rock rubble dam with asphalt concrete - outer seal . A general overhaul of the dam and inlet structure took place until 2000.
The water treatment plant is located directly below the dam. In addition to drinking water, electricity is also generated. The hydropower plant has an output of 400 kW. The flood relief is located as a round overflow shaft next to the dam. For pre-cleaning, the dam has two pre- dams called Kerngrund and Silbergrund. These dams have heights of 14.5 and 12 m respectively.
The inflow to the dam is secured by transfer tunnels from the Zahmen Gera and the Schmalwasser .
