Ola Mestad

Ola Mestad (born December 8, 1955 in Oslo ) is a Norwegian lawyer, lawyer, university professor and ad hoc judge at the EFTA Court . He teaches maritime and EEA law at the University of Oslo .

School and university education

Ola Mestad graduated from Berg Gymnasium in Oslo and Reform Gymnasium in 1974. In 1984 he completed his law studies in Oslo and in 1985 submitted a diploma thesis on the subject of Om Statoil og statleg styring og Kontroll (roughly German: About Statoil and state management and control ). In 1992 he received his doctorate in law , also at the University of Oslo ( dissertation : Om force majeure og risikofordeling i contract ; roughly German: On force majeure and risk distribution in the contract ).

From 2010 to 2011 he was Senior Global Research Fellow at the Institute for International Law and Justice (IILJ) in New York .

Ola Mestad worked as an attorney in the law firm BA-HR, where his focus was on advising clients from the oil sector.

Ola Mestad has been a professor at the Scandinavian Institute for the Law of the Sea at the University of Oslo since 2000 and director of the Nordisk institutt for sjørett ( German : Scandinavian Institute for the Law of the Sea ).

From 2010 to 2014 chairman of the ethics council of the state pension fund Global (GPFG).

He heads the Research Committee of the Norwegian Constitutional Jubilee 1814-2014.
