Olaf Becker (born November 21, 1970 ) is a former German soccer player who played three times in the 2nd Bundesliga for MSV Duisburg .

Career as a player

Becker, who played in defense and defensive midfield, began playing football in his childhood at FC Hagenshof , before he was accepted into the youth department of the professional club MSV Duisburg as a D-youth . He stayed there for a few years before moving to Borussia Mönchengladbach in the A-youth . Becker saw his duel behavior and his header game as his particular strengths. At Mönchengladbach he was accepted into the Bundesliga squad in 1989 at the age of 18, but he did not play a single role in the course of the following two seasons and was ultimately no longer part of the professional team. In the run-up to the 1992/93 season, he returned to MSV Duisburg, who played in the 2nd Bundesliga. On July 17, 1992 he was substituted on for Michael Harforth in an encounter against Fortuna Cologne (0-0) in the 68th minute and thus reached his professional debut in the second highest German division. This was followed by two more considerations in the early stages of the season before he was only part of the second team at MSV. In 1993 he moved to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in the fourth highest division.

With Oberhausen he was promoted to the third-class Regionalliga West / Südwest in 1993 , but did not take a permanent place despite regular consideration. At the end of the 1996/97 season Oberhausen missed the possible promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga with twelve points behind the SG Wattenscheid 09 , but was at least able to participate in the German amateur championship. In the final against SSV Reutlingen 05 , Becker was substituted on shortly before the end of the game and had to witness Reutlingen's 2-1 winner in the final minutes. With the missed title win, his time in Oberhausen ended at the same time. During the 1999/2000 season he played for SV Straelen in the Oberliga Nordrhein , where he was trained by the later Bundesliga coach Jos Luhukay . In September 2008, Becker took over the coaching position at the amateur club Mülheimer SV 07 , where he had previously been assistant coach. In summer 2011 he resigned for personal reasons and was then inherited by Ralf Zils .
