Olaf Fritsche

Olaf Fritsche (* 1967 in Lübeck ) is a German author of children's books as well as non-fiction and textbooks for adults.

Life

After graduating from the Lübeck Oberschule zum Dom in 1987, Fritsche studied biology at the University of Osnabrück from 1988 to 1993 . During his main studies he received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . He wrote his diploma thesis in the biophysics group, where he then carried out research until 1997 and was involved in teaching. Two lecture notes were written during his university days. In 1998 he completed his doctorate. rer. nat. with a thesis on ATP synthase .

From 1997 to 2000 Fritsche was employed by the Spektrum der Wissenschaft Verlagsgesellschaft , where he was involved as an editor in setting up the online presence. During this time he wrote well over 1000 articles on current results from all areas of the natural sciences.

In 2001 he started his own business as a science journalist. Contributions by him have appeared in many regional and national newspapers and magazines. From 2004 to 2006 he was editor-in-chief of the youth magazine life + science . At the same time, he began to write non-fiction books and as a ghostwriter companion books for popular science television programs.

In addition to scientific topics, Fritsche also worked on the fields of deafness and sign language as a further focus . Among other things, he created a website with information for hearing people and published the book "Diagnose Hörgeschädigt" (Diagnosis Hearing Impaired) for parents of hearing impaired children. From 2006 to 2012 he was a lecturer for "German spoken and written language" at the Institute for Sign Language in Baden-Württemberg.

In the children's and youth book area, Fritsche was active as a juror at the Hessian competition "Jugend sucht" (Youth Writes) until 2012. The time travel series “ The Secret Tunnel ” of his own children's books has also been published in Korean, Polish, Spanish and Catalan.

Although Fritsche is no longer active in research, in addition to non-fiction books he also writes textbooks for first-year students in the life sciences.
