Olaf Meinen

Olaf Meinen (born October 16, 1967 in Leer (East Friesland) ) is an independent German local politician . From 2006 to 2019 he was mayor of the East Frisian community of Großefehn . Since November 1, 2019, he has been the acting district administrator in the Aurich district .

Career

From 1986 to 1988, Meinen completed an apprenticeship as an administrative clerk at the community of Großefehn. From 1988 to 2000 he worked for the district of Leer , most recently as head of the immigration office. In 2000 he returned to Großefehn as head of the regulatory and social office. In 2004 he became team leader of the employment agency of ArGe Aurich. As a part-time job, he trained as an administrative business economist.

In 2006 he was elected full-time mayor of the community of Großefehn in the first ballot with 53.78 percent of the vote. He referred the SPD candidate Dieter Rogge, the CDU candidate Siebelt Fohrden, the candidate of the citizen list, Hans Freese and the non-party Dieter Ulferts to the places. With 91.3%, Olaf Meinen achieved the second-best Lower Saxony election result on May 25, 2014 when he was re-elected until 2021.

Also in the first ballot, Meinen was elected District Administrator of the Aurich district on May 26, 2019. He prevailed against the SPD incumbent Harm-Uwe Weber and the non-party Bernd Iken with 53.5 percent of the vote .

Meinen has been married since 1992 and has two children.
