Olari Taal

Olari Taal (born August 7, 1953 in Valga , Estonian SSR ) is an Estonian politician and entrepreneur.

Life, politics and economics

Olari Taal graduated from high school in Varstu ( Võru County ) in 1971 . He graduated in 1976 from the Tallinn Polytechnic Institute ( Tallinna Polütehniline Instituut ) in mechanical engineering . From 1976 to 1979 he worked in the socialist construction industry. From 1985 to 1992 Taal was General Director of the Housing Combine in Tartu, South Estonia .

From January to June 1992 Taal was Minister of Construction and from June to October 1992 Minister of Economics in the cabinet of Prime Minister Tiit Vähi . From January 1998 to March 1999 the non-party Taal was Interior Minister in Prime Minister Mart Siimann's cabinet .

In addition to politics, Tall held numerous economic posts. In 1992/93 Taal was group leader at the Estonian Central Bank ( Eesti Pank ). From 1993 to 1997 he was the chairman of the board of the Estonian bank Hoiupank . From 1999 to 2001 Taal was CEO of the food company Ösel Foods .

Since 2001 Olari Taal has been a member of the Res Publica party , of which he is a co-founder. In 2003 he was elected as a member of the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ). Taal has been a member of the supervisory board of the construction company Merko Ehitus since October 2008 .

Private life

Olari Taal is married. He has two sons and a daughter.
