Olav Thon Foundation

Olav Thon Foundation (unofficial name; in Norwegian : Olav Thon Stiftelsen ) is an economic and philanthropic foundation in Oslo , Norway , and the largest in this country.

The foundation was established in Oslo on December 10, 2013, when Olav Thon transferred his shares to the Olav Thon Group . This makes the foundation a major player in the Norwegian economy and one of Norway's largest property owners.

In addition to managing the group, the purpose of the foundation is to support research in the fields of mathematics and science and medicine. In total, the foundation is to distribute fifty million Norwegian kroner annually, half of which goes to research. This takes place, among other things, with up to ten annual research prizes with prize money of 500,000 kroner each for outstanding scientific achievements by Norwegian and foreign researchers and an annual international research prize with prize money of five million kroner.
