The Old Formation was an Austrian rock and roll band that was founded in 1981 as a cover band for relevant clubs. In fact, she was able to position herself in the general pop scene with her own titles like Rain in the City .

history

Robert Toegel (vocals, saxophone), Otto Sotosek (vocals, drums) and Josef "Pepi" Veprek (piano) formed a band in 1981 with the simple aim of occasionally playing for rock'n'roll dancers and fans in relevant clubs. Andreas “Andy” Kaltenhauser (vocals, guitar), Gerhard Donhofer (bass) and ultimately Josef “Gschiserl” Meiböck (vocals) joined them. Almost by chance they came into contact with the then label CBS Records . The first LP was recorded in October 1981 and presented in March 1982. The release Rain in the City was immediately placed in the Austrian charts and is still a standard for groups with a corresponding repertoire.

In autumn 1984 the pianist and singer changed, Hannes Jaric (piano) and Helmut "Steve George" Arnet (vocals) joined the group. The third LP was recorded with this line-up, and the release Wake Up was able to position itself in the charts. Another track from the LP, Lemme Hear Your Heartbeat , was less successful in the charts, but enjoyed strong airplay for a while .

In 1986 there was a change to the last line-up, which in 1990 released an LP Kruzitürken with little success , and in 1993 the group disbanded.
