OLD ( acronym for Old Lady Drivers ) was an American metal and grindcore band that was formed in 1986 under the name Regurgitation in Bergenfield , New Jersey , and dissolved in 2002.
history
The band was founded in 1986 under the name Regurgitation. The line-up at that time consisted of James Plotkin (vocals, guitar), Henry Veggian (bass guitar) and Mike McNeice (drums). The first Organic Backwash demo appeared in December of that year . With the release of the second demo, Bathrooms Rule , the record company Earache Records became aware of the band and signed them. In a first line-up, Veggian and McNeice were replaced by drummer Ralph Pimentel and Alan Dubin, who from now on took over the vocals. In 1988 the band recorded their debut album Old Lady Drivers under the new name OLD .
Pimentel then left the band and was replaced by a drum computer programmed by Plotkin. This was followed by a few gigs in New York, with only two members and the drum computer. The next album, Lo Flux Tube , was released in 1991, with Jason Everman playing bass. Everman previously played in the band Nirvana .
A little later Everman left OLD and played with the bands Soundgarden and Mind Funk . He was replaced by Herschel Gaer on the third album The Musical Dimensions of Sleastak . Due to the constant changes in the line-up, live performances were not possible. In 1993 the band released the album Hold Onto Your Face . This work is a remix album, with different artists from the hardcore techno / gabber area remixing the songs. Artists such as the Brooklyn-based producer Rob Gee and Ultraviolence from Great Britain released their first remixes here. Also headed Mick Harris ( Napalm Death , Scorn ) in two mixes.
In 1995 the last album Formula was released. In 2002 the band broke up.
style
OLD developed from a pure grindcore project to an experimental band with strong avant-garde traits and a strong connection to industrial metal , which was particularly evident on the second album Lo Flux Tube .
