Old Metropolitan Band

Old Metropolitan Band is a Polish traditional jazz band . It was founded in 1968 in Krakow .

The band was formed in June 1968 in Krakow. The founding members were Andrzej Jakóbiec ( trumpet ), Ryszard Kopciuch-Maturski ( double bass , leader) and Tadeusz Oferta ( banjo ). Other early members were Czesław Dworzański ( drums ), Wiesław Kuprowski ( clarinet ), Marek Michalak ( trombone ), Henryk Słaboszowski ( piano ) and Witold Stryszewski (double bass).

In 1969, the Old Metropolitan took the band Breslauer Festival Jazz nad Odra part. A year later she was awarded as the best band at the competition of this festival. She performed a jazz version of the folk song Bandoska , which later became her flagship. In 1975 the band received another award, this time in the traditional jazz competition Złota Tarka , while the trombonist Marek Michalak received the musician award .

In the following years the band performed at several jazz festivals in Europe, including several times at the Warsaw Jazz Jamboree .

Until 1993 the composition of the band was relatively stable. From 1993 the band consisted of Adam Góralczyk (trombone, violin ), Andrzej Jakóbiec (trumpet and vocals), Wiktor Kierzkowski (drums), Ryszard "Kajo" Kwaśniewski (clarinet, soprano saxophone , violin), Ryszard Kopciuch-Maturski (double bass) and T-bass Oferta (banjo). Other associated musicians were Rafał Zydroń, Stanisław Cieślak, Andrzej Lechowski, Jan Boba, Wojciech Salamon, Stefan Sendecki, Andrzej Krauzowicz, Ryszard Styła, Andrzej Czernicki, Zdzisław Gogulski, Adam Pukaucha Zzyńaucha, Ryszjardski.

Founding member Andrzej Jakóbiec died on October 8, 2005. He was replaced by the singer Elżbieta Kulpa.

The band's repertoire includes traditional jazz standards such as Bel Ami , Midnight in Moscow , Oczy czarne , Caravan , a jazz adaptation of Schubert's Die Forelle and their own songs.

Eight albums in the band's discography were released in Germany.
