The Oldenburgische Volkszeitung (OV) is a daily newspaper based in Vechta , which appears Monday to Saturday. The sold circulation is 20,967 copies, a decrease of 16.4 percent since 1998.
history
The Oldenburgische Volkszeitung appeared for the first time on January 1, 1895. The first managing director was the Vechta bookseller Johannes Terwelp . Of two previous newspapers, the publisher of which was bought by the publishing house of the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung in 1896, one had been published since 1836. Until the end of 1919, the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung had the subtitle Daily newspaper for the Duchy of Oldenburg . During the German Empire and the Weimar Republic, it was the most important daily newspaper in the Grand Duchy and the Free State after the news for town and country . In the headline it describes itself as a “Christian daily newspaper” and is considered a conservative voice in the very traditionally Catholic area of circulation.
On January 1, 2020, the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung and the Münsterländische Tageszeitung merged to form the OM media group.
Frequency of publication and distribution
On Sundays it appears as a free OV on Sunday . The distribution area is the southern Oldenburger Münsterland , in which the OV has a market share of 95 percent. The place of publication is the district town of Vechta (Lower Saxony). Ulrich Suffner has been the editor-in-chief since 2013.
