history

The newspaper was founded in September 1881 as a weekly for the city and office of Cloppenburg . In 1886, the 22-year-old Hermann Imsiecke bought the printing rights and ran the newspaper from Verlag Hermann Imsiecke Druck und Verlag. The company is still family-owned. On October 1, 1906, the weekly newspaper for the districts of Cloppenburg and Friesoythe was renamed the Münsterland daily newspaper and from then on appeared daily. On March 31, 1945, the newspaper was temporarily suspended. It started again on October 1, 1949, this time as a morning and no longer a lunchtime newspaper. The Löninger Volksblatt , bought in 1941, and the Friesoyther Tageblatt were added as additional subtitles .

On January 1, 2020, the Münsterländische Tageszeitung and the Oldenburgische Volkszeitung merged to form the OM media group.
