Ole Danbolt Mjøs

Ole Danbolt Mjøs (born March 8, 1939 in Bergen ; † October 1, 2013 ) was a Norwegian doctor and professor at the University of Tromsø, he was also a member of the Christian People's Party of Norway ( KrF ) and held several political offices in this function.

Career

After studying medicine, Mjøs received his doctorate in 1972. Three years later he was appointed professor of physiology at the University of Tromsø . From 1989 to 1995 he was president of the university. He published several papers on cardiovascular physiology and provided new insights into the causes of heart attacks with his work. From 1998 to 2000 he led a committee set up by the state, the so-called Mjøs Committee, which had the task of examining higher education in Norway. The committee's recommendations formed the basis for the 2003 higher education reform.

In addition, from 2003 to 2008 Mjøs was a member of the Norwegian Nobel Committee for the nomination of the Nobel Peace Prize winners and headed it. His successor in this position was Thorbjørn Jagland .

Mjøs was the holder of the Order of Saint Olav and the Order of the Lion of Finland .
