Ole Sverre Nafstad (born February 20, 1946 in Bærum ) is a former Norwegian rower who won an Olympic silver medal in 1976.

Athletic career

The 1.93 m tall Ole Nafstad from Bærum Roklub won his first international medal at the European Championships in Copenhagen in 1971 . Together with Svein Nielsen , Kjell Sverre Johansen and Tom Amundsen he reached the finish in the four without a helmsman , almost three seconds behind the boat from the GDR, but two and a half seconds ahead of the third placed four from the Federal Republic of Germany.

The following year, the four-man competed at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich with the same line-up as the previous year. In the first run, the boat took second place behind the Romanians. Since only the four preliminary winners made it directly to the semi-finals, the Norwegians had to go to the repechage and were eliminated as third behind the Italians and the Bulgarians.

1973 at the European Championships in Moscow, the Norwegian four consisted of Rolf Andreassen , Arne Bergodd , Odd Sørum and Ole Nafstad. Behind the boat from the GDR, the boat from the Soviet Union won silver, a second behind the Norwegians rowed to bronze.

At the 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal, Rolf Andreassen, Arne Bergodd, Finn Tveter and Ole Nafstad competed in four. In the third run, the boat from the GDR won ahead of the boat from the Soviet Union and the New Zealanders, these three boats directly reached the semi-finals. The fourth-placed Norwegians had to go to the hope race, which they won wafer-thinly ahead of the Canadians. In the first semi-final, the boats from the GDR, Canada and New Zealand qualified for the final, the second semi-final was won by the Norwegians, ahead of the boats from the Soviet Union and the Federal Republic of Germany. In the final, the boat from the GDR won with almost four seconds ahead of the Norwegians, followed by the boat from the USSR about one second behind the New Zealanders.
